We're big fans of boom bap over here at The Drum Broker. The Drum Broker was founded on a strict hip hop and boom bap aesthetic. We grew up listening to Alchemist produced joints, DJ Premier, and a slew of underground hip hop from the 2000s and 90s Golden Era classics. It's our thing. Dope sound FX can be hard to find. They're either lifted off vinyl or not right for hip hop. These are the kind of FX you'd find sprinkled all over classic records by Beatminerz, Dilla, Madlib, Flying Lotus, and Alchemist, as well as records by Stereolab, Jean-Jacques Perrey, Tomita, Urszula Dudziak, and Mort Garson. Late night sci-fi FX in the vein of classic 60s and 70s episodes of Star Trek, Dr. Who, and War of the Worlds, plus numerous Moog, psych, jazz, and prog records. Think lasers, cosmic water drops, flying saucer noises, background foley, splashes, dalek farts, and teleportation sounds. Cosmic sounds that bring psychedelia, ambience, and atmosphere to any beat.
Butcha built the whole thing on analog gear: SH-1000, Prophet 600, Prophet 5, Model D, Voyager, Jupiter-6, and Vox Baroque, run through tape echos, a hardware spring reverb, and the Eventide H3000. No presets. Every FX was played live and tweaked to taste on the synths while riding delay speeds, echo volume, and feedback. The one shots were recorded off his personal collection through pedals the same way, so you can load them into a sampler and play spacey melodies with them.
